Fall Topics

Fall is here and our new homeschool classes are right around the corner!! Our homeschool dates for this fall are:

September 15th
September 29th
October 13th
October 27th
November 10th

We have slightly changed the time of the classes to allow a short break in the morning and afternoon to use the restroom and get a drink.

Social Studies - 11:00 to 11:50
Short Break - 11:50 to 12:00
Science - 12:00 to 12:45
Lunch and Recess - 12:45 to 1:15
Spanish I and II - 1:15 to 2:00
Short Break - 2:00 to 2:10
Writing - 2:10 to 3:00

September Social Studies topic will be India and the Science topic will be Ecology (Predators and Prey/Food Chains). Topics for October and November classes will be posted shortly.

Please visit this site often as teachers may post pertinent information regarding class and materials. Our general guidelines require that children attending any of the homeschool classes be able to write (or print) and be able to read at a second grade level. Classes are specifically geared to 2nd through 5th grade. We also expect that students have a basic understanding of appropriate "classroom" behavior. We recognize that sitting for three hours straight is nearly impossible for any child to do and it is our hope that the break times between classes as well as the lunch break will eliminate any fidgetedy, disruptive, and/or unsuitable behavior. Please remind your children of their manners and the importance of raising their hands. Also, please have your children use the restroom prior to entering the program room. We ask that students come to class prepared, but will always have extra paper and pencils for those who may forget. Our lunch time policy will remain the same. Parents and siblings may join their children in the program room for lunch at 12:45 or may eat outside in the courtyard. No food or drink is to be eaten in the Children's Department or any other area of the library. Thank you for your cooperation.

Welcome!

Thank you for stopping by the Bethel Park Public Library's site for homeschooling families. For the past several years we have been offering regular programming for homeschooled children and in that time we have met so many wonderful people who have helped us in our service to this growing group of families. If you have suggestions for ways in which we can improve our homeschool outreach, we would like to hear from you! Please feel free to comment on this blog or, if you prefer, email us at hahnl@einetwork.net. Please put "Homeschooling" in the subject line, as our spam filter is a tricky one and we don't want to lose your email!
